Estimate the profit you keep after UK payment fees, VAT, subscription costs, shipping and refunds. All calculation amounts are GBP.
United Kingdom · GBP stays fixed. Fee-policy guidance is provided in English.
Choose the plan and the processor that captured this order, then enter price, discount and actual economic costs. Identify your VAT registration and price basis before interpreting revenue. Add subscription allocation, service fees and an actual refund only when they apply. Net margin divides profit by retained revenue excluding VAT.
| Plan | Monthly / annual effective monthly | Domestic standard | Amex / international |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | £25 / £19 | 2% + £0.25 | 3.1% + £0.25 |
| Grow | £65 / £49 | 1.7% + £0.25 | 2.7% + £0.25 |
| Advanced | £344 / £259 | 1.5% + £0.25 | 2.5% + £0.25 |
| Plus | From £1,800; contract-specific | From 1.3% + £0.25 | Use contract rate |
Plus calculations require an actual processing rate or amount. Enter the actual subscription whenever billing VAT, promotions or contract terms change the economic cost. Subscription costs are not allocated until positive monthly order volume is entered.
For a registered seller, £120 including 20% VAT contains £100 merchandise revenue and £20 output VAT. Basic domestic card processing on the £120 captured amount is £2.65. A £100 VAT-exclusive price plus 20% VAT produces the same £120 payment. This calculator removes the VAT once, then subtracts fees and the economic costs entered.
Discount uses the same VAT basis as the price. Buyer-paid delivery has its own price basis and VAT selection. Standard, reduced, zero-rated and exempt sales have different tax treatment; the calculator does not decide the correct classification or recover input VAT. Cross-border, Northern Ireland and import-value rules need separate review.
An external provider's processing fee is separate from Shopify's transaction fee: Basic 2%, Grow 1%, Advanced 0.6%, Plus 0.2%, based on discounted goods, tax and shipping. Manual/exempt payments do not automatically incur that fee. In a hybrid store, select the actual processor for this order; the Shopify Payments published path adds its 1.25% premium, while the external path uses the plan's transaction fee. Actual total processing rates already include any premium you enter.
Refunds keep original fees and original costs in separate lines. Only the entered inventory recovery, external-provider credit and VAT reversal are credited. Solvers use the forward calculator, round required prices upward to pennies and check the result. Absolute fee amounts, fixed Shopify Tax scenarios and actual refunds disable solving.
No. Choose one card route. Basic international processing uses 3.1% + £0.25, not 2% plus 3.1%. International Amex is not charged twice.
It is a merchant service fee separate from customer VAT. The UK rates are 0.25% or 0.15% for Plus, with a £0.99 order cap. Select confirmed eligibility and enter the applicable amount. Older stores also need actual regional annual fee usage for the £5,000 cap; newer stores have a lifetime threshold and no old annual cap.
For applicable stores created on/after 12 May 2025, only that payment portion can attract the special transaction fee. Split-tender processing is not guessed here. Enter actual total payment processing and actual total Shopify transaction charges to avoid charging the whole order twice.
No. Capture and payout currencies matter. Supply gross GBP equivalents from actual records before estimating a fee. The model applies the UK 2% gross basis from 6 April 2026 only to a confirmed applicable Shopify Payments conversion. Use actual fees for other arrangements; no exchange rate is invented.
Shopify Payments original card fees and Shopify third-party transaction fees remain charged. Currency conversion fees also remain charged. Any external-provider refund credit must follow that provider's actual policy and be entered separately.
