Estimate what you keep from a Shopify order after payment processing, plan costs, Shopify transaction fees, shipping, advertising, returns, and other operating costs.
Shopify costs are not one marketplace referral fee. Your economics can include the monthly Shopify subscription, payment processing, third-party transaction fees, Shopify Tax, currency conversion, shipping, apps, advertising, and returns. This calculator keeps those costs separate so settlement-level charges are not confused with monthly operating costs.
For US online orders, Shopify currently publishes plan-based Standard and Premium card rates plus a fixed fee. Standard cards are domestic consumer cards; Premium cards include domestic commercial, corporate, business-tier cards, and domestic American Express under Shopify's current US card-type guidance.
Premium card rates are higher than Standard rates. The calculator uses your selected plan and card type, and adds the published international-card surcharge only when you select an international card.
When Shopify Payments is your sole payment provider, Shopify states that third-party transaction fees do not apply to orders processed by Shopify Payments. Payment processing fees still apply.
Your provider can charge its own processing fee, and Shopify can charge a separate plan-based third-party transaction fee. Shopify's current billing formula for that fee uses product cost after discounts plus tax and shipping charges.
When Shopify Payments is used alongside a third-party provider, orders processed through Shopify Payments are currently charged the standard Shopify Payments rate plus a 1.25% premium. Orders processed by the third-party provider instead use that provider's fee plus Shopify's plan-based third-party transaction fee.
If you provide monthly order volume, NetPerSale allocates your monthly Shopify subscription and other monthly fixed costs across orders. Monthly profit subtracts each monthly fixed cost exactly once. Shopify Plus uses term-based public pricing and can use a variable platform fee for more complex or higher-volume businesses, so use the actual subscription mode when your contract differs.
Shopify Tax is a tax-calculation service fee charged to the merchant, not the customer sales tax itself. For US stores, Shopify currently publishes a $100,000 threshold, a 0.35% fee for Basic/Grow/Advanced and 0.25% for Plus, with a $0.99 per-order cap after the threshold is reached.
For stores created before May 13, 2026, the free-tier threshold is based on annual sales. For stores created on or after May 13, 2026, it is based on lifetime sales. This calculator does not guess your cumulative threshold status; you choose the applicable state. Shopify's published Tax pricing has a separate high-volume scope, so use the actual Shopify Tax fee shown in Shopify Admin when your store is outside the public pricing table.
Shopify's current US pricing adds 1 percentage point to online international card rates above the selected Standard or Premium base rate.
For a US Shopify Payments merchant, Shopify currently publishes a 1.5% currency conversion fee when the customer's payment currency differs from the payout currency. Since April 6, 2026, Shopify calculates this fee directly on the gross order amount.
Shopify states that the original Shopify Payments credit-card processing fee is not refunded after an order refund, and Shopify third-party transaction fees are not returned when the order is refunded. An external payment processor's own fee-refund policy is set by that provider and can differ. Model expected return losses using your own economics.
Profitability depends on your selling price, plan, payment path, card type, product cost, shipping, advertising, returns, apps, tax service, and other costs. There is no universal profitable Shopify margin.
No. Shopify Payments processing fees pay for payment processing. Shopify third-party transaction fees are separate Shopify charges that can apply when a third-party provider processes the payment.
No. Buyer sales tax is kept out of seller economic revenue here, even though it can be part of gross payment or specific Shopify fee bases.
Manual methods such as cash, bank transfer, or COD are modeled with zero payment-processing and Shopify third-party transaction fees by default. Enter any actual COD or other costs as Other per-order cost.
Shopify Payments PayPal Wallet and an ordinary third-party PayPal setup are not the same. Public PayPal Wallet rates can be shown as starting rates and currency conversion can differ, so use an actual rate or fee when your order does not fit the standard card model.
Shopify documents third-party transaction fee rules for store credit and gift-card payment amounts on stores created on or after May 12, 2025. This calculator does not auto-apply that exception; use Other Shopify transaction fee when it applies.
